Microwaves. Controversial topic. I don't use microwaves for many reasons and I'm about to share them with you in this post.

Firstly, I am a firm believer in allocating time in your day to prepare nutritious meals. It doesn't have to be fancy or difficult. Put your phone away, and enjoy the process of creating HEALTHY food for the body. This means no microwaving left overs.

Don't get it twisted, I eat left overs A LOT! I make food in bulk and reheat if throughout the day/week. BUT I NEVER use a microwave. I reheat food slowly in the oven or over the stove (depending on what it is). Here are 3 cases that should hopefully get you thinking a bit more about your microwave use.

Hans Hertel, a Swiss food scientist, said "there are no atoms, molecules or cells of any organic system able to withstand such a violent, destructive power for any extended period of time; not even in the low energy range of mill watts. This is how microwave cooking heat is generated - friction from the violence in water molecules. Structures of molecules are torn apart, molecules are forcefully deformed (also known as structural isomerism) and thus become impaired in quality."

He initiated BAAARE tests on microwaved food to determine its effect on human physiology and the blood. It was concluded that microwaves lead to the DEGENERATION of food which causes changes in the blood e.g. increased cholesterol levels, decreased hemoglobin and red blood cell levels and an increase in leukocytes (white blood cells).

"Heal yourself 101" by Markus Rothkranz has some GEMS about microwaves. He makes an real interesting statement that "microwaving water and then watering seeds with that water will result in the seed not growing". THINK ABOUT THIS PROPERLY!! If a microwave will alter the SEED so it no longer germinates or sprouts, imagine what the microwave is doing to the structure of the FOOD you eat after being microwaved. It deadens the food, and it deadens you. You are what you eat. Don't eat dead food.


And finally, here is a cool little fact for you to remember; when microwaves were first introduced to Russia, the Russians conducted extensive testing to determine the biological effects of them/ They found that nearly all foods tested formed carcinogenic compounds after being microwaved. Milk and grains formed carcinogenic compounds through the conversion of amino acids. Meats formed heterocyclic amines (chemicals formed when muscle meat from cow, pig, chicken or fish is heated at high temperatures). These chemicals cause changes in DNA leading to an increased risk of developing cancer. Processed meats containing nitrates become even more toxic when heated.

Heterocyclic amines are HELLA interesting. They form when amino acids, sugars and creatine in the meat react at high temperatures. Anyway these results were enough for the Soviet Union to ban microwaves. Unfortunately as the food industry created more and more processed foods and the westernised diet gained a lot more momentum and popularity, the ban was lifted #SadFace. 

Recycle your microwave. Scrap them. Get rid of that nutrient destroying device. There is no reason for a microwave to be in your kitchen. It is a WASTE of space, energy and will compromise your health. Health is the ultimate wealth. Convenience is NOT a reason to degrade your health and quality of life.
